Microsoft and Nokia are now partnering up to strive for their shares in the highly competitive mobile market and are planing on application known as the Communicator Mobile software, it enables users to find and contact their colleagues available online. | With the help of this new application, people will now be able to see their colleagues’ availability, and click to communicate with them using instant messenger, e-mail, text or phone call. The names and status of colleagues are embedded directly in the devices’ contacts application. A traffic light system: available, busy, do not disturb, away-alerts users on each other’s status. Just like the BlackBerry Messenger, they can also send instant messages either to one person or to many people in a single conversation. According to Bloomberg BusinessWeek "The Communicator software is the core of a suite that is expected to include document sharing, live meetings and video conferencing capabilities for smartphones analogous to those on corporate desktop PCs but adapted for mobile use.” These features are currently not available in RIM’s Blackberry and Apple’s iPhone. This thus gives the two global firms an edge over their target rivals as they compete to get a foothold in the fast growing smartphone market after not very successful attempts in the past. Microsoft says that there is no additional license cost involved to get started. Owners of Nokia E52 and E72 models can download it as of today from Nokia’s Ovi Store. It will come preloaded on future business devices including upcoming new models like the E5. It is currently available in English but will soon be rolled out in 18 more languages by the end of this month. |
