Pay for Facebook? Don't think so 2mcubexRumours spread fast, and after the recent email leakage, is there a possibility we will have to pay for using facebook?

There is always some truth in all rumours ... how is facebook any different from the other big fish of the internet sea? Like deviantart,Kongregate, last.fm , wordpress and many others.
All those services are paid for ... in bigger or smaller parts.

Deviantart offers VIP status for paying ... wordpress gives you access to CSS and other really important areas of your wordpress blog, which I still think is extremely expensive and extemely useless to pay for CSS access.

last.fm an old favorite of mine went mental with its paid services. It created an iron curtain around the US, UK and germany ... cos apparently those 3 countries bring substantial revenue from ads, and other countries of the world need to pay for access to once free music radio streaming.

Is Facebook next?

The daily telegraph says NO ... facebook CEO's have said that they arn't planning any payments for a 350 million user website service... that has to earn a load of revenue.

But the even though they are calming us saying NO now... what of the future? Last.fm also said it was going to be a free radio? and now what?

Personally I think facebook would loose all its grace with paid service.
Looking at stats, its generally youngsters and teens that dominate on facebook ... and they don't have and won't be able to pay $14 for facebook.

This is not true. Facebook has said that they will not make users pay. This has been going on for a couple of year and everytime they say nope they won't.

Whenever it does, their fanbase will reduce considerably. People will move onto other free networking sites.

I know i used to be able to access & listen to music on pandora.com while i was studying in the states, but in india we got no access to the website. It feels like we have done something wrong Razz

Well, if users are too pay, the company will get a huge bang. 350 million users is not a small amount at all. $14 per person will earn Facebook $490 million and the company will have the need to think about money again.

It is written Jalo's article that youngsters and teens dominate Facebook. Yes, it is true. I am only 15 and too on Facebook. I believe that thousands, or perhaps not that little but millions of members will start deactivating their account. In the end, Facebook gets nothing and ends up as a failed social website.

That I have to agree on and this was going on for a long time. If they make it not free, the younger generation will move on to Myspace or other social netwoeking sites

It's a rumour, And nothing more. Facebook is making millions from advertising. If they were really interested in making more money, then they would have sold facebook to google while they had the chance. Instead google settled for twitter and facebook continues to make millions from google. What a story. This reminds me of the emails sent around saying hotmail was going to close. Rumours are rumours. No truth behind them, just some sad little kids trying to make people believe in something that ain't going to happen.

People have been saying this since Facebook has been online, yet alone they have been saying Facebook is using your images for ad's. Yet Facebook still denies this. Before you starting thinking Facebook is doing something check their Fan (Like) Page first.
