We all love to RT good and thought provoking tweets that we get from our friends on twitter. Sometimes it is an opinion tweet and sometimes it is a piece of humor or a wonderful quote . There are some useful links from friends that we also retweet occasionally . While it is good and nice to be doing that , part of the joy of retweets comes from knowing that the tweet is genuine and RTdoes not cause any angst to anyone . So here are a few things that you need to remember when RTing a tweet to your followers . Let us look at this in detail So here are the important things to do before RTing a tweet | 1. DO Credit the original tweep : Many a time , I see that in the urge to get brownie points and win some new follows , people forget to retain the original author’s credit for the tweet . THIS IS A BIG NO NO . This will just create more confusion and twitter also marks tweet copying as spam . Moreover if your follower is following the original author , then what you really don’t want will happen , he/she will unfollow you and probably block you 2. DO verify the links that you post : When you have a juicy link to a killer piece of information , the instinctive reaction is just hit the RT button right away . By falling for that reaction , you are risking potential worm/virus laden links getting to people through you . First of all verify the source of the tweet is a person you know and trust . Next is to ensure that the link does not trip any anti-virus alarms when opened . Top most is to ensure that the link does indeed open and does contain the info that the tweet/title suggests . After all , the last thing you want to be called is SCAMSTER 3. DO NOT tamper with the original text : Whatever you want to say about the link , say it BEFORE the RT symbol and do not directly edit the orginal tweet . If you do that and leave just the link intact , then technically you are a link thief , not an information sharer that you think you are 4. When in doubt – DON’T RT : If for some reason you have thoughts/doubts about a specific tweet , the best thing to do is NOT RT it at all . Sometimes intuitions are far better and accurate that technology . Being a good tweep is more about being responsible and focusing on quality and not the quantity that you are giving to folks who follow you . |
